The Ruhr district has arisen and grown by the coal mines as the most
important energy supplier for the reconstruction after the war. Thousands of
workers came with her families here. There were enough work and apartments. How
early settlements were built around a castle, the Ruhr district grew around its
coal mines. Today, only a few mines are still operating and some winding towers,
some of them are made to industry monuments, show of the former "coal
factories".

In the
past center of the mine, now center of the little park:
The winding tower of the former coal mine Recklinghausen II.
The area around the shaft has lain fallow for a long time. However
they have finally started in 2002 to form the area and to lay out a
little park around the old shaft.
A mining museum is located in the old winder machine hall, for the
children there is a Half-Pipe now in the park and the course
participants of the DSK training center can relax here in the course
breaks.

Two attempts were
needet to make these photos necessary.
On Feb.17.03 it was my first start with KAP after the winter break
again. The conditions actually were ideal: Radiant weather, wind with
approx. 4 m/s from east and sufficient place around the shaft for
lifting the kite and walk to the winding tower.
However, at three degrees below zero and after the longer winter break,
the accumulators didn´t want to power the rig and the camera
correctly. So after some photos from the ground and from the air it
was all for this day. |

On 3-1-2003 I then had a little time and fine weather
again and I continued the series of aerial photos. Today the wind blew rather
weakly with only 3 m/s from the west.
| To keep
the pithead from the 1960s years and the old winder machine hall as an
industry monument, a promoting organization for mining and industry
history founded by Hochlarmarker citizens in 1989:
"Verein für Bergbau und Industriegeschichte
Recklinghausen e.V."
(Unite for mining and industry history
Recklinghausen registered association)
This organization bought the machine hall and the winding tower in
1989 from the Montan property company. From 1999 to 2001 the machine
room was then modified and calls itself now:
"Bergbaumuseum, Sportstätte und
Stadtteilkulturelles
Zentrum"
(Mining museum, Sports place and
District Cultural Center)

Links to other KAPers and more you can find in my Surfers
Guide.
I like to be available for questions, suggestions or experience exchange.
I would be very pleased about an entry in my visitor's
book.
