At the 15. international
Kiteflyersmeeting on the Danish island FANO, at the 06.18.1999 the time
has come: 10 jears ago the team arround Alfons Karstens
has had liftet the big Cody train, the Manlifter for last
time. This time the train should show that it still works.
As lifter-kite there was a Cody Extendetwing kite now.
Much work and enthusiasm are in this big kitetrain and
everything must go right so that the operation can be
successful. Finally the operation is a litte dangerous.
But I can say it now: The team arround Alfons Karsten has
done a good work. The lift was a full success. The shown pictures are in part from a videocam and in part scanned. |
It was a wonderfoul day on the Danish island
FANO. All conditions to start the Manlifter were allright. The
wind was blowing whith a strong
breeze from north along the beach of FANO, the visibility was
very good. The Manlifter could start. After the pilot-kite pulled
the kiteline in the air, six pulling-kites wehre started. On the
kiteline there ar diffetent stoppers. The pulling-kites have
rings with different diameters. Every kite hangs on his own
stopper. The kiteline now is taut very strong, the time for the
biggest kite has come: The lifter.
To control such a big kitetrain there must be a big equipment. The truck from Uwe Gryzbeck was the anchor for the train. Tu pull in the kiteline after the flight there was a tractor.
Now the team has the job to control the flight. Whith two lines, on the left and right side of the basket, the lifter-kite is holdet straight and in the wind. When the basket reached an alitude of some meters Alfons has done a loude yell and his fist came out. The Cody Manlifter is still working and the audience is applauding.
