The Ruhr district has arisen and grown by the coal mines as the most important energy supplier for the reconstruction after the war. Thousands of workers came with her families here. There were enough work and apartments. How early settlements were built around a castle, the Ruhr district grew around its coal mines. Today, only a few mines are still operating and some winding towers, some of them are made to industry monuments, show of the former "coal factories".

Ore bunker and blast furnaces of the old steelworks in the landscape park Duisburg North

Once a location of the industry with workplaces for many hundred people. Today a landscape park made for leisure time and culture. The former steelworks direct at the freeway A42 in the Duisburg north.

These concrete bunkers were used for storage the raw ores and surcharge substances for the steel production transported by the train. It were then mixed and as a so-called "Möller" filled into the blast furnace over a sloping train of above.

Of the formerly five blast furnaces three still are in the landscape park the Duisburg north. On the middle photo one gets a good summary of the stoves, bunker as well as the portal crane and the sewage plant.

At the weekends, after setting in of the darkness the plant is lit artistically and dipped in colored light. Blue, green and red colors in light variations always changing by the spectacular light production of the London artist Jonathan Park. An imposing sight.
