This Easter-hollyday we visited the Baltic Sea island "Hiddensee" in Mecklenburg - Vorpommern. The narrow island, aligned in north south direction, has four small places with together approx. 1300 inhabitants. The otherwise rather flat island possesses a hilly area with a steep coast, high up to 72 m, in the north to the Baltic Sea, the so-called "Dornbusch".   Length:   16,8 km
  Surface:   18,6 km²
  Narrowest place:   250 m
  Broadest place:   3,7 km
  Highest place:   72 m

Right picture:
The place Vitte is situated in the middle area of the island. In the background are the "Dornbusch", and if you exactly look you can see above on the right also the lighthouse.

Also with this wind speed up to 11 m/s flew the FF#1 still reliably. I had to use my 3 mm of cord and had, when catching up, some trouble.

Lighthouse on the "Dornbusch"

For more than 100 years the famous landmark at the island Hiddensee is the Lighthouse at the north of the island. The "Leuchtfeuer Dornbusch" - this is the correct name - was build in the years 1887 / 1888 on a 72m high hill on the island. The original tower was a round building out of bricks an 28 m in size. But in time the building got cracks and so it got a jacket out of ferro-concrete. Ein häufig auf Postkarten zu findendes Motiv.

Here above on the Dornbusch I used my new flow form for the aerial photography for the second time. With a wind speed from 5 to scarcely 7 m/s I used my 2 mm polyester cord. Altogether I startet for 3 times and made more than 30 pictures whith my digital-camera. At the third start I have gone rather near to the tower.

On the hilly area at the Dornbusch there are turbulences by the slope upwinds. These become strong in small flight altitudes, so that I did not want to exaggerate it to get in contact with the tower.

At the lighthouse on the Dornbuschthorn there is also a wetherstation.
On the top of the roof you can see the WEB-Cam. Frequently there is also a weather forecast taken from the foot of the lighthouse in the television

The " Suederleuchtturm " (southern lighthouse) on the "Gellen"

At the south end of the island Hiddensee is a second, small lighthouse. That red - white tower is 12 m high and was built 1905 on a stone base. It´s light is a good service for the ships on the way to Stralsund or Schaprode.

For the aerial photos at the small lighthouse I needed two starts. With my first attempts to 11.04.2001 my remote control had absolutely no range, so that I could make only pictures from small height. Later I have detect, that the wire, which I use as transmitter antenna, directly at the transmitter housing was broken. On the spot I screwed the transmitter with my pocketknife and twisted the wire line again. The interim solution held then up to the end of the vacation.
